NetBEUI - NetBIOS Enhanced User Interface. NetBEUI is a simple network layer transport protocol developed to support NetBIOS networks. It is an enhanced version of the NetBIOS protocol used by network operating systems such as LAN Manager, LAN Server, WFW, Windows 95/98,  and Windows NT. NetBEUI was designed by IBM for their LAN Manager server and later extended by Microsoft and Novell.

Advantages

• NetBEUI is the fastest transport protocol available to NT.
• error protection
• easy to implement (self configuring and self tuning)
• small memory overhead.

Disadvantages

• NetBEUI is not routable.NetBEUI must be connected using bridges instead of routers. Remember, a bridge is a device that joins two LAN's.
• basically no support for cross platform applications
• minimal troubleshooting tools available
• Maximum number of computers NetBEUI should be used on is 20 to 200 computers
